Style: Hijiori-kei

It originated in Hijiori Onsen in Yamagata prefecture. The style is said to have started with craftsman Denzo Kakizaki who learned to make Kokeshi in Naruko Onsen and returned to Hijiori in late 1870's. At the result, Hijiori kokeshi are described a as a fusion of Naruko and Togatta styles.
The double eyelids or eyes with the irises facing upwards are typical. The dolls are painted in yellow, with green and red flowers (such as chrysanthemums). The head is quite large, with tegara patterns.
