Style: Naruko (Honjo)-kei

Naruko-kei Kokeshi originated in Naruko Onsen in Miyagi Prefecture and is one of the most well-known families of Kokeshi.
The Honjou Kokeshi style, while influenced by Naruko Kokeshi, developed its own distinct characteristics and features over time and is primarily produced in Honjou, Akita Prefecture.
Nruko Kokeshi dolls are characterized by the squeaky sound that is made when the head is turned. The feature attributed to this unique technique is called “Kubi-ire” (fitting the head in the body). Characteristic features include igeta, maple, dianthus, tawara pattern, iris, chrysanthemum, and kasuri patterns.
