Angelo Soliman - Ein Afrikaner in Wien

Angelo Soliman war einer der bekanntesten Afrikaner des 18. Jahrhunderts in Europa. Diese Ausstellung zeichnet seinen Lebensweg vom Sklaven bis zum Hausbesitzer und Freimaurer in Wien nach, erklärt die Hintergründe für die Schändung seines Leichnams durch das kaiserliche Naturmuseum und stellt diese in den Kontext von Afrikaklischees und Rassismus vom 17. bis ins 20. Jahrhundert.

Albie Sachs (Johannesburg)

Albie Sachs was active from the age of 17 in the resistance to apartheid, first imprisoned and later blown up by a bomb placed in his car by South African security agents. He became a leading member of the Constitutional Committee of the African National Congress during the period when the new democratic constitution – with a progressive and comprehensive Bill of Rights – was adopted. After the first democratic election in 1994 he was appointed by President Nelson Mandela to serve on the newly established Constitutional Court. He retired in 2009.
