It originated in Zao Onsen in Yamagata Pref.
Structure: body is inserted into the head
Large heads and substantial bodies. They often feature crescent-shaped eyes and drooping noses. At the crown of the head, a vibrant red radial decoration known as "tegara" is decorated. The body of the doll is decorated with various designs such as chrysanthemums, cherry blossoms, and peonies. Zao Takayu-kei Kokeshi is strongly influenced by Togatta-kei lineage.
